Social media has been very influential in leading to the downfall of a number of people. For some they are able to rise up from the ashes while others are not always so lucky as they fade into oblivion.

Everybody makes mistakes but how to handle it and move on with life is also very important.

Sometime in 2016, Canadian sisters and Instagram slay queens, Jyoti and Kiran Matharoo, made headlines after they were involved in a scandal that almost threatened to shake the lives of a number of Nigerian elites including billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola.

The sisters were alleged to be the part owners of an online site, NaijaGistLive, which aimed to post scandalous details about elites in the country as they reportedly blackmailed them before taking down the malicious stories.

Otedola reportedly sued the sisters which led to them being arrested, apologizing and subsequently fleeing the country.

Later on, the sisters explained that their apology was under duress because their passports had been seized.

It might seem like a long time ago but the sisters have been able to rise from the ashes and lead luxurious lives that involves wearing the best designer outfits as well as traveling to choice locations around the world.

Jyoti and Kiran were recently featured on Forbes where they explained how they were able to make the scandal work in their favor.

Many people over the world often employ the services of professionals to deal with their missteps but not in the case of these sisters.

According to them, one step that helped them is by setting the record straight. The sisters explained that they were very open and honest with their followers and they also made sure to share their own version of things.

“Don’t let people bully you and make you out to be something you’re not. We took an assertive approach and wrote to all the publications who wrote false and derogatory stories about us, threatening to sue if they didn’t print retractions. They offered to share our side of the story when we were ready to do interviews to clear our names. These false stories will always be available online, but so will alternate stories setting the record straight.”

The sisters also explained that they decided to own their mistakes rather than avoid it. According to them, everybody makes mistakes.

“Everyone has downfalls, the only difference is ours happened in the pubic eye while most people fight their battles in private. We’ve always been unapologetic about who we are. No one can hold your past against you if you own it. What can anyone say about us now after the worst has already been said? It’s empowering.”

Their story can be described as inspiring seeing as they now own a lifestyle blog that covers a range of interesting topics like food, photography, beauty among other things. They are also set to start their own fashion line and co-author a book
