Son of Egypt’s Morsi dies of heart attack at 25

7

The youngest son of deceased ex-president Mohamed Morsi himself died Wednesday night of a heart attack in Cairo according to the family lawyer.

25-year-old Abdallah Morsi, suffered the fatal cardiac arrest while at the wheel of his car, Abdel Moneim Abdel Maqsoud told AFP.

“A friend who was with him was able to stop the car and take him to the hospital”, said the lawyer, adding that Abdallah Morsi’s funeral was set to take place on Thursday.

His father Mohamed Morsi — who as Egypt’s first freely elected president headed an administration loyal to the now-banned Muslim Brotherhood until he was deposed by the military in 2013 — died in court on June 17.

The military overthrow of Morsi was led by Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who ascended to the presidency in 2014 polls, before securing an official 97 per cent in elections last year.

Mohamed Morsi, 67, collapsed during a court session in Cairo, some six years after his ouster and imprisonment.

He had been sentenced to 45 years in prison for offences including “inciting violence” in late 2012 against protesters and “spying” on behalf of Qatar.

Sisi has stifled opposition, particularly from the Muslim Brotherhood.

Egypt declared the Brotherhood a terrorist organisation in late 2013.

Actor Hosea Chanchez exposes his friend’s father who allegedly molested him when he was 14

21

Actor Hosea Chanchez has revealed that he was molested when he was 14 years old by his friend’s father.

He made this revelation in an emotional Instagram post.

The Game actor began in the caption of his post:

I’m Hosea chanchez and when I was 14 years old I was molested BY my friends father. This man is a predator, preying on children who’s trust he’s falsely built through lies, manipulation, threats and secrets. I hope this truth helps to stop child molesting predators from sexually assaulting more children. Pedophiles have no place in our society they hide in the open and rape children who are afraid to speak up because of shame, guilt, fear, denial and the thought that no one will believe them. Im doing this to help parents and young children become aware of some of the signs and better protect themselves from sexual predators. (Swipe to read my TRUTH)

In the post, Hosea gives details about the abuse that he experienced at the hand of his abuser, who worked at a university. He then went on to name him.

He wrote:

On This one day in particular, he insisted on taking me home, I knew something wasn’t right, my intuition was telling me it’s not right but I got in the car anyways. Shortly after the drive began he detoured and pulled down a dirt road, pulled over and said he wanted to talk to me about school and what my plans for my future are. He worked at a university so he said he’s only looking out for me and my future. Then out of nowhere He said he wanted to see what the girls are going crazy over, then he reached over unzipped my pants and told me to trust him. I remember he kept saying trust me you will like it, he pulled out my penis put it in his mouth and molested me in his car. When he finished he said, it don’t mean nothing if a guy gives you a blow job, it’s not intercourse, so it’s not sex. Then he told me he’s a very powerful man and if I’d ever told anyone he would ruin my life and no one would believe me anyways. I was 14, a young boy, a child.

Foreign Media Calls For Release Of Sowore

21

United States media organisation, Democracy Now, has called for the release of pro-democracy activist and Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore.

Sowore was arrested by the Department of the State Services on August 3, 2019, for calling for a peaceful protest to demand good governance in Nigeria.

But despite growing calls for his release, the government has continued to hold on to him, breaching his fundamental human rights in the process.

Speaking about Sowore’s impact in the country, co-anchor of Democracy Now, Amy Goodman, described him as one who is “deeply involved in human rights pursuits”.

The call by the US media outfit comes about two weeks after 48 international human rights and press freedom organisations petitioned the United Nations and African Union Special Mechanisms to intervene in the arbitrary detention of Sowore.

The 48 organisations in their petition, argued that the treatment of Sowore constitutes a violation of his right not to be arbitrarily detained, right to a fair trial, right to freedom of expression, right of freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, and his rights as a human rights defender.

R. Kelly moved from solitary confinement to general population

6

R. Kelly has been moved to general population after spending weeks in solitary confinement in a Chicago prison.

According to Page Six, the disgraced singer was transferred out of a solitary housing unit on Tuesday, September 3, following an emergency motion from his attorneys saying he had been unfairly treated behind bars because he was a celebrity.

His attorney, Steven Greenberg claimed the singer was only placed in solitary confinement by prison officials as a form of punishment.

R.Kelly’s transfer sparked an irate letter from Chicago prosecutors, who claimed the embattled R&B legend wanted to be in solitary confinement in the first place.

“Defendant stated that the MCC staff told him that he could ‘try it [general population] in a couple of days to see what it looked like but they can’t guarantee nothing,’” prosecutors wrote, quoting from a recorded phone call Kelly made on July 19 from Chicago’s Metropolitan Correctional Center, where he’s awaiting trial on child porn charges.

R. Kelly allegedly expressed fear during the call, saying: “You know, and that’s why, I was like, hmmm, too many people up on you and I done seen too many movies, you know.”

Prosecutors said prison officials planned for a safe move the moment Kelly first asked to leave solitary on August 19.

“MCC staff did not deny the request, but rather started to review the general population housing options. In fact, MCC staff took steps to ensure a safe transition to general population by initiating a threat assessment to determine if there were any safety or security concerns with housing defendant in general population,” the filing reads.

But Kelly’s lawyer, Greenberg maintains that his client had no “meaningful interaction” with humans.

“Once [prison officials] could assure his safety it was time to move him,” Greenberg said. “He has been a model inmate and should be treated with an appropriate level of respect and privilege, not as if he has misbehaved.”

Greenberg said security measures have been put in place to ensure his client is safe while in general population.

R. Kelly will now be allowed 10 non-attorney visits instead of the previously allowed one. He’ll also have a longer leash for phone calls and emails. Also, the singer will now be able to go out into the yard with other prisoners during rec time.

Kelly, 52, is facing four sex crimes charges involving minors in three different states, including federal indictments in Illinois and Brooklyn.

Google, YouTube fined $170m for violating children’s privacy

9

Google has agreed to pay $170 million in a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission and New York’s attorney general over charges that YouTube had made millions of dollars over the years from violating children’s privacy laws.

The fine is by far the largest ever imposed on a website for violations of the 1998 Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which requires companies to obtain parental consent before collecting data on children under the age of 13.

Google and YouTube will pay $136 million to the FTC and the remaining $34 million will go to the New York attorney general’s office.

The FTC alleged that YouTube violated COPPA by collecting the personal information of users who watched videos that were clearly directed toward children and then used that data to serve up targeted advertising.

“YouTube touted its popularity with children to prospective corporate clients,” FTC Chairman Joseph Simons said in a statement. “Yet when it came to complying with COPPA, the company refused to acknowledge that portions of its platform were clearly directed to kids. There’s no excuse for YouTube’s violations of the law.”

Under the agreement, YouTube will also have to require content creators uploading videos to designate whether or not they’re intended for children. Last week, the site announced that it was launching a separate site for children’s content.

The protest at the mall located at Thabo Mbeki Road in Lusaka which also houses Builders Warehouse and Food Lovers Market, both South African companies led to its closure. #Xenophobia: Tony Elumelu Reacts To Attacks In South Africa

8

Tony Elumelu has described the greatest threat in Africa as ‘Poverty’.

Elumelu stated this in an article to express his displeasure to the ongoing xenophobic attacks and counter attacks between Nigerians and South Africans.

In his words, “our greatest threat in Africa is not our Fellow African brothers and sisters. It is Poverty! And as I have often said, Poverty anywhere is a threat to all of us everywhere. Let’s not lose sight of our shared destiny.”

See his full article below:

Africa is such a beautiful and blessed continent and we Africans are our greatest resource. I’ve always known and felt this.

As a young man when we started at Standard Trust Bank, banks were still focused on metropolitan areas but we wanted to give opportunity to everyone and create access to financial services for all around the country. So we left the city and we expanded all over Nigeria.

UBAgroup was a one country operation in 2005 when I took over as CEO following the merger but our strategic intent was to do what we did with Standard Trust Bank and expand this time all over Africa bringing excellence in financial services and again – access. And uniting Africa through banking.

Today we are in 20 countries and waxing stronger. After I left as CEO of UBA, my sights still set on Africa, I founded the TonyElumeluFoundation and this time, finally can proudly say today that we are empowering young African men and women in all 54 countries across the continent.

The reasons have never changed. I believe in Africa and I believe in Africans. Our greatest threat in Africa is not our fellow African brothers and sisters. It is Poverty! And as I have often said , Poverty anywhere is a threat to all of us everywhere.

Let’s not lose sight of our shared destiny. It is only together that we can face our common enemy- Poverty. We need to stop attacking each other but rather embrace one another and work together to uplift our continent and be our brother’s and sister’s protectors wherever we may find ourselves.

This is the only way to our economic liberation and prosperity.
We must say no to barbarism and savagery. Violently mutilating and killing our brothers & raping our sisters; looting and destroying their livelihoods is evil and un-African and it dehumanizes us all. Instead, we must always seek to elevate, protect and help one another.

I am disheartened by the videos and stories floating around social media around these xenophobic attacks! They are despicable and pure madness!

A 43-year-old US woman identified as Jennifer Talbot was arrested by immigration officials in Philippines on Wednesday September 4, while attempting to smuggle a 6-day-old baby out of the country in a carry-on bag.

She was reportedly nabbed after a staff from Delta Airlines alerted airport police shortly after she checked in.

The American woman was grilled by police on the identity of the infant and how she came to have him after officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila discovered the child inside “an oversized belt bag” around her waist.

“The infant was hidden in the oversized belt bag, and she did not declare nor present him to the immigration inspector.

“The suspect was not able to provide any documents showing she had the authority to take the baby onboard the plane” Melvin Mabulac, a spokesman for the Bureau of Immigration said.

#Xenophobia: South African businesses shouldn’t operate further in Nigeria — Orji Uzor Kalu

36

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu called for an end of South African businesses in Nigeria as he queried the South African government over its cold feet in protecting Nigerians and their businesses during the recent xenophobic attacks in the country.

In a statement released by his media aide, Kunle Oyekunle, the Chief Whip of the ninth Senate and former Governor of Abia State asserted that South Africans have lived and carried out their businesses peacefully in Nigeria. He stressed that the arrest of South Africans behind the attack is not enough.

“The gruesome killings, looting, arson of property belonging to Nigerians and attack of Nigerian Embassy in South Africa is ill-conceived, disheartening and wicked.

“How can any sensible person attack and burn a fellow human being just because he or she has a feeling to do so?

“Those mindless criminals who attacked and prevented law-abiding Nigerians to freely conduct their businesses must be made to pay for their crimes.

“Arresting them is not enough. If the South African government fails to do more to protect the lives of Nigerians, there should be no reason to allow them to operate freely in Nigeria.

“All their enterprises deserve to be closed down including MTN, DSTV, Shoprite among others.

“In the spirit of brotherhood, we have supported them. Our doors have always been open, but it’s time to retaliate by shutting our doors,” he said.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu who commended President Buhari for sending a special envoy to South Africa also urged the Nigerian government to put out stiffer measures against South Africa over the endless xenophobic attacks.
