A little girl was found floating on an inflatable unicorn in the middle of the sea and she was rescued by a Greek ferry.
The child, who was around four years old, was propelled out into the ocean by strong currents in the Gulf of Corinth off the coast of Antirrio in western Greece, reports local media.
When her parents realized she’d drifted out of sight, they contacted port officials, who in turn radioed the captain of a local ferry on the Rio-Antirrio route.
Video taken by one of the ship’s passengers shows the moment the girl was spotted floating on the unicorn.

“I was approaching the port of Antirio and I was notified by the Port Authority that a child, who I did not expect to be so small, had been swept away by the currents on a nearby beach, which is near the port pier,” Captain Grigoris Karnesis told the Greek City Times.
“She was frozen from fear, because the current was very strong. I put the ship in such a position so as not to affect the small inflatable.
“I placed it in such a way that the ship was not affected by ripples, because if the inflatable sank we would have serious problems.
“We approached slowly and were able to rescue the child.”
Fortunately, the rescue went well.

Blasphemy: I won’t waste a minute to sign the execution order – Governor Ganduje speaks on death sentence handed to Kano singer

0

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has finally commented on the death sentence handed to Kano singer, Aminu Yahaya Sharif for blasphemy.

Ganduje promised to sign the execution order of death sentence on blasphemy offenders against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as soon as the Supreme court grants the permission during a stakeholder meeting with religious clerics, scholars, lawyers and other relevant stakeholders to sample their opinion on the court judgement on Thursday August 27.

He said;

“The court has done the right thing in passing the judgement. We were told that by law, the offender has 30 days to appeal, after which if he failed to do so he should be sentenced,

“Having listened to Islamic clerics in the state and other stakeholders, I won’t waste time to sign the execution order immediately the time elapsed or the Supreme Court ruled on the same judgement.”

Should at the end of it the warrant is presented before me, I will not waste time in signing it. “On the second hand, if he does not appeal within the specified period, I will not spend a minute in signing the death warrant” the Governor stated

Jacob Blake’s father, Jacob Blake Sr, told the Chicago Sun-Times of the new development after visiting his son on Wednesday, August 26.
“I hate it that he was laying in that bed with the handcuff onto the bed,” the father told the paper.
“He can’t go anywhere. Why do you have him cuffed to the bed?”
The elder Blake also wondered what his son was arrested for, the report said.

US 2020 Elections: Trump challenges Biden to drug test before debate

0
Barely three months to the US presidential elections, the US President Donald Trump, has challenged Democratic challenger, Joe Biden, to drug tests before their first electoral debate next month.
Biden, 77, and Mr Trump, 74, will have three debates before the 3 November election. The three presidential debates will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, on 29 September; in Miami, Florida, on 15 October; and Nashville, Tennessee, on 22 October.
Back in 2016, Trump suggested his then-Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, had been “getting pumped up” before their debates and challenged her to take a drug test ahead of their final live TV encounter.
On Wednesday, August 26, Trump made a similar claim, arguing that Mr Biden’s debating ability had improved in the final Democratic primaries debate against Bernie Sanders.
Mr Trump said the former US vice-president “wasn’t even coherent” during some of the 11 live TV debates he competed in earlier but by the time of the last debate on 15 March, he performed better against Senator Bernie Sanders.
Speaking to the Washington Examiner on Thursday, August 27, Trump said; “I don’t know how he [Mr Biden] could have been so incompetent in his debate performances and then all of a sudden be OK against Bernie.”
He added: “It wasn’t that he was Winston Churchill because he wasn’t, but it was a normal, boring debate.
“You know, nothing amazing happened. And we are going to call for a drug test because there’s no way – you can’t do that.”
Mr Trump said of the debates: “Well, it is a prizefight. It’s no different from the gladiators, except we have to use our brain and our mouth. And our body to stand. I want all standing – they want to sit down.”
Trump offered no evidence his rival might be on drugs other than to say: “I’m pretty good at this stuff.”

FG shifts resumption of International flights to September 5

0

The Federal government has shifted the resumption date of international flights to September 5.

Hadi Sirikia, the Minister of Aviation, had earlier announced that the date for resumption for International flights was Saturday, August 29.

However, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 in Abuja on Thursday, August 27, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA, Musa Shuaibu Nuhu, announced that the date has now been moved to September 5.

According to Nuhu, while airlines and airports were ready to operate, other non-aviation logistics were not and this has necessitated the one-week extension.

“We have other non-aviation logistics we are still working on, mostly the COVID-19 protocol tests and online platform. We need to get this ready.”Nuhu said

He stressed that the September 5 as a “sacrosanct date”, noting that “the initial announcement was anytime from the 29th.”

“In due course, we will be announcing the protocols for the resumptions and we will be giving further details. Hopefully early next week, we will release this.” he said

The Nigerian Airspace was shut down in March as part of measures to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

VIDEO| New Zealand’s Christchurch mosque terrorist who killed 51 Muslims sentenced to life in prison with no parole

0
Brenton Tarrant, the 29 year old far-right terrorist who killed 51 Muslim worshipers in New Zealand’s worst mass shooting in modern history, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The sentence, which is the first type of sentence to be handed down in the country’s courts, was passed on Thursday August 27, after Tarrant, an Australian citizen, pled guilty earlier this year to murdering men, women and children at two Christchurch mosques on March 15, 2019. The youngest victim was just three years old.
New Zealand
On March 15, Tarrant made the 4.5 hour drive from the South Island city of Dunedin to Christchurch, around 360 km (220 miles) away.
At about 1.30 p.m. that day, as worshipers were taking part in Friday prayers, Tarrant sent a message to his family outlining his plans. He then activated a GoPro on his vest and began live streaming to Facebook.
New Zealand
Tarrant drove to Al Noor Mosque in an inner-city Christchurch suburb, where he killed 44 people and wounded 35.
Tarrant then sped 4 miles to the Linwood Islamic Centre where he killed seven people and injured another five.
As he ran back to his car for more ammunition, he was chased by a man Abdul Aziz Wahabazadah who threw an EFTPOS machine at the Tarrant’s head. Wahabazadah also picked up a rifle Tarrant had dropped and threw it at Tarrant’s car, shattering a glass panel.
Tarrant was on his way to a third scene in Ashburton, a town around an hour’s drive from Christchurch, but was stopped by police who rammed his car and arrested him without resistance.
The Christchurch attack, unprecedented in New Zealand, prompted New Zealand to ban military-style semi-automatic weapons.
Tarrant, the first person in New Zealand to be convicted of terrorism, pled guilty to 40 counts of attempted murder and one charge of terrorism.
New Zealand abolished the death penalty for murder in 1961, so he couldn’t be sentenced to death.
New Zealand
Justice Cameron Mander, announcing the conviction on Thursday, turned to Tarrant and asked him if he wanted to speak. “No. Thank you,” Tarrant quietly replied.
Justice Mander then read the names of every victim, telling Tarrant about the lives he destroyed.
“You showed no mercy. It was brutal and beyond callous — your actions were inhumane,” Mander told Tarrant.
“As far as I am able to gauge you are empty of any empathy to your victims,” Mander added. “You have said you were in a poisoned emotional state at the time, and terribly unhappy. You felt ostracized by society and wanted to damage society as revenge.”
After his sentencing, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said;
“Today I hope is the last where we have any cause to hear or utter the name of the terrorist behind it,” said Ardern, who has made a point of not saying extremist’s name. “His deserves to be a lifetime of complete and utter silence.”
Thursday’s sentence came at the end of a four-day hearing at Christchurch High Court where 91 survivors and relatives of the victims described the pain Tarrant had inflicted on the Muslim community as Tarrant sat quietly, showing no emotion.
