Spread the love

A US soldier who fell in love with a French woman in World War Two was reunited on the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landing and told her: “I always loved you.”

French TV crews were there to immortalise the romantic scene as the two embraced for the first time in three quarters of a century.

KT Robbins was 24 when he fell for Jeannine Ganaye, 18, while in Briey, north-east France. But he was sent to the Eastern Front and never saw her again.

Both married but he always kept her photo. He showed it to her when they reunited after a TV crew tracked her for a D-Day event.

Upon seeing her, KT, now 98, told Jeannine, 92: “I always loved you. You never got out of my heart.”

Jeannine confessed: “When he left in the truck, I cried, of course, I was very sad. I wish after the war he hadn’t returned to America.”

With tears in their eyes and having agreed to meet up again, Robbins said: “Jeannine, I love you girl.”
