An Islamic cleric, Professor Kamaldeen Balogun has called on Nigerians, especially Muslims to rededicate themselves to service of humanity as one of the tenets of Islam.

Balogun, the Chief Imam of Gbaguraland in Abeokuta and Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Muslim Community of Ago-Iwoye, Ogun state, made the call in a lecture he delivered at the inauguration ceremony of the Grand Assembly for Faedat Tijaniyah SouthWest, Edo and Delta states.

The assembly is the umbrella body for Tijaniyat Sufi in Southwest, Edo and Delta states.

The cleric expressed the need for Muslims to rally round the leaders of the country and support them through prayers in order to overcome the challenges confronting the country.

Balogun who spoke on the theme: “The importance of Tijaniyat in Islam”, also implored Islamic leaders to ensure that they correct the misconceptions about Islam, insisting that no religion supports violence, killings and criminality.

He said “Sufi is an educational curriculum aimed at correcting some of the misconceptions about Islam.

“Sufism is particular about the teaching of the spirit being and knowledge impartation.

“The three things that Sufism addresses are knowledge, service to community and humanity; and spiritual development.”
