The Palace of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II has suspended indefinitely, the Obadolaye N’lweguae of Benin, Chief Utetenegiabi Omo-osagie for leading a group of traditionalist (Osokpikan), to a house in Benin City to lay a curse without the approval of the palace, an act the palace described as a “negation of customary practice and gross violation of customary norms and acts that are inimical to order” causing the palace to disassociate from his actions.

The suspension order was made known today during a press briefing at the Palace by the Obazelu of Benin, Chief Osaro Idah said;
“On Saturday the group known as Osokpikan, which is own by the Palace was lead by a chief to a certain premises in Benin to put a curse on an event, which he has no right to do.
That group Osokpiksn belongs to the palace of Benin, and the authority that can give instructions to such action is his Majesty the Oba of Benin.
Chief Osaro Idah added that for such thing to happen in Benin, you have to seek the permission from the Oba, otherwise it is null and void, however, Chief Utetenegiabi should have taken instructions from the Oba of Benin, and by not doing that the Oba has disassociated himself from the event and Chief Utetenegiabi will remain suspended from the palace activities until further notice.
