UPDATE: Court awards N10m to man who sued DSS and Buhari’s daughter, Hanan, after he was illegally detained for buying sim card previously used by her

On Thursday, May 14, The Federal High Court in Asaba awarded the sum of 10 Million Naira against Nigeria’s secret police, SSS, for illegally detaining Anthony Okolie for 10 weeks over Hanan Buhari’s abandoned SIM card

Nasoweseeamonline had earlier reported that Okolie, who was arrested for purchasing and using a sim card earlier used by Hanan, President Buhari’s daughter, took the agency and MTN Nigeria to court over the violation of his fundamental human rights. Read here

National President of Revolutionary Lawyer’s Forum, Mr. Tope Akinyode, who instituted the case on behalf of the applicant, stated that the lawsuit was filed to serve as exemplary caution against flagrant abuse of power by law enforcement agencies and to sound a note of warning on public officers to ensure their relations do not abuse power arbitrarily.
