It was gathered that the victim, a mother of two, who had been declared missing by her husband, was beaten by her abductors, who also fled with her six months old baby.
A spokesman for the police, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident to PUNCH correspondent, said the victim’s baby was also recovered.
Omoni, a Superintendent of Police, said operatives also arrested a suspect.
“Yes, the woman was rescued by our men yesterday (Wednesday). She was kidnapped and dumped in a septic pit on August 18 and rescued on 19th. Her baby was also rescued,” he added.
He explained that policemen on stop-and-search duty intercepted the suspect with the baby at Omarelu, a boundary community between Rivers and Imo states, as he could not give a good account of himself.
“On receipt of the matter, our men initiated investigation which led to the recovery of the child and the arrest of the suspect, who took them to where they kept the woman.
“She was rescued and taken to the hospital. She is responding to treatment. The suspect is with us and he’s helping in our investigation,” Omoni added.
He said the command was determined to rid the state of criminal elements and appealed to members of the public to report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies for prompt action.
