The Minister of Aviation, Mr Hadi Sirika saaid that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu is ready for the resumption of flights after it was closed for 370 days.
Mr Hardi arrived in Enugu on Saturday August 29,.for the final inspection of rehabilitation works in the airport before it’s official reopening.

In August 2019, the federal government shut down Akanu Ibiam International Airport due its poor infrastructures, equipment, bad runway and landing aids. There was also the presence of a market close to the airport attracting birds, leading to constant bird strikes.

However, the minister, who landed at the airport on Saturday evening with a private jet, No.5N-PAZ said that he was delighted to see improvement at the airport.

Sirika arrived ahead of the official reopening of the airport on August 30, with his entourage. In a statement released online, he said:

“We are ready for the official reopening of this airport tomorrow and I am happy that we have been able to achieve this as scheduled,” Sirika said.

According to NAN, there is till an ongoing work in some areas of the airport, like the airport reception, main gate and drainage. However, the minster stated that the airport will be opened today August 30.
