Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been branded “attention seeking” after releasing pictures from a private Remembrance Sunday visit to a Los Angeles cemetery.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited the Los Angeles National Cemetery to mark the occasion.

They placed flowers picked from their garden at the graves of two Commonwealth soldiers, royal biographer Omid Scobie tweeted.

Harry and Meghan also placed a wreath at an obelisk in the cemetery with a plaque inscribed with the words: “In Memory of the Men Who Offered Their Lives in Deference of Their Country.”

The Duke’s message on the wreath read: “To all of those who have served, and are serving. Thank you.”

The images were released by the couple’s office but it sparked a huge backlash online, with critics questioning why they didn’t “do it privately” instead of carrying out “stunts”.

Piers Morgan is one of those who called them out for their action.

He tweeted: “Just outrageous – treating Remembrance Sunday like a PR opportunity, & trying to steal headlines from the real royals doing their duty back home.”

Piers also ripped into Harry and Meghan on Monday morning during his TV show.

It’s been claimed that Prince Harry had asked Buckingham Palace to lay a wreath back home in the Cenotaph in his name on Sunday, but they refused.

Therefore, Harry, who served in the armed forces, and wife Meghan, who both now live in America, laid a wreath at Los Angeles National Cemetery.

A spokesman for the couple said: “It was important to the duke and duchess to be able to personally recognise Remembrance in their own way, to pay tribute to those who have served and to those who gave their lives,’ a statement said.

“The couple laid flowers that the duchess picked from their garden at the gravesites of two commonwealth soldiers, one who had served in the Royal Australian Air Force and one from the Royal Canadian Artillery.”

Outspoken Piers slammed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for allegedly hiring a photographer to capture the event, calling it a “distasteful PR stunt”.

Piers’ co-star Susanna Reid asked: “Why wouldn’t he want to show his respect when he has such a strong connection?”

“Why do it with a photographer?” asked Piers.

“Because if you don’t do it with a photographer, no one will know what you’ve done it!,” Susanna, 49 hit back.

Piers replied: “Oh please, do me a favour, he could have issued a statement.

“They launched a PR stunt with a preferred photographer to take the attention away from the royals back in London… Because they felt thwarted.”

He added: “They want their royal cake and they want to eat it.”

Meanwhile, back in London, Prince William and Prince Charles attended the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph on Whitehall.
