The Lagos state police command has arrested 45-year-old Anya Okorie of Anya Okorie and Usman Ali for parading themselves as serving police inspector and military man respectively.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Ademuyiwa Adejobi, states that the fake Inspector, Anya Okorie, was arrested in a complete police uniform with the rank of Inspector of Police at Ketu while suspiciously parading himself. Adejobi added that Usman was arrested within the premises of Surulere Division when he and his accomplice, now at large, chased and attacked one Onyema, with a jackknife in the Division, putting on camouflage vests.
The police spokesperson said the two suspects have since confessed to being a fake police officer and Army personnel respectively. Usman further confessed to be an Okada operator.
”Items recovered from Okorie are (1) two mopol Berets, (2)two lanyards,(3) two mobile police khaki trousers, (4) three mobile T-shirts, (5) Sgt Rank and Mobile Squadron badges, while Army Camouflage vest and Jack knife were recovered from Usman.
Usman Ali has been charged to Magistrate Court 3, Surulere on 17th February, 2021,while Okorie will be charged to court today, 18th February, 2021.” a statement released by Adejobi reads
The statement adds that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, condemned the act of impersonation by some individuals who parade themselves as security operatives in the state and ordered the Divisional Police Officers and detectives to be on the lookout for the impersonators.
