Human rights lawyer implores FG to sanction South Africa businesses

14

In reaction to the Xenophobic attacks on Nigerian citizens, The Federal Government of Nigeria has been urged by a human rights lawyer to impose economic sanctions against South African business interests in Nigeria.

Mr Paul Eshiamomoh, a human rights lawyer, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja that this would be more impactful as a way to compel their government to be proactive against the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians than resorting to mob actions across the country. He implored Nigerians to remain calm to avoid worsening the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa.

“I do not believe shutting down South African businesses in Nigeria will solve the problem and I do not subscribe to violent reprisal attacks against South Africans living in Nigeria or their businesses. The Federal Government can impose sanctions against their business interests in Nigeria. I believe that every diplomatic action should be matched with a diplomatic solution. So if Nigeria’s government does not take steps to send a signal to South African authorities against this barbaric act the situation will get worse,” he said.

The rights lawyer expressed dismay over the ability of South African police authorities to prevent the attacks against Nigerians.

[VIDEO] Benny Hinn renounces prosperity gospel, says ‘Holy Ghost is just fed up with it’

1

Israeli televangelist Benny Hinn, known for his massive “healing crusades” and also associated with what has become known as prosperity gospel, has announced that he is undergoing a correction of his theology that made him and his family millions.

In a Facebook live broadcast with his followers, Benny Hinn who has been an advocate of obtaining blessings through sowing of seeds, faithful payments of tithes and offerings, delivered a full-throated rejection of the practice.

He further stated that he will never ask for $1,000 or whatever amount again because he thinks the Holy Ghost is just fed up with it. Revealing that some Pastors may not invite him to their churches again to preach and raise money for “church projects”, Benny added that the Gospel “is not for sale.”

“I’m sorry to say that prosperity has gone a little crazy and I’m correcting my own theology and you need to all know it. Because when I read the Bible now, I don’t see the Bible in the same eyes I saw 20 years ago,” Hinn said as his followers rejoiced.

“I think it’s an offense to the Lord, it’s an offense to say give $1,000. I think it’s an offense to the Holy Spirit to place a price on the Gospel. I’m done with it. I will never again ask you to give $1,000 or whatever amount, because I think the Holy Ghost is just fed up with it.

“Did you hear me?” Hinn asked as his audience responded affirmatively in high spirits.

“I think it hurts the Gospel, so I’m making this statement for the first time in my life and frankly, I don’t care what people think about me anymore,” he continued.

“When they invite me to telethons I think they will not like me anymore. Because when you look at the word of God … if I hear one more time, break the back of debt with $1,000, I’m gonna rebuke them. I think that’s buying the Gospel. That’s buying the blessing. That’s grieving the Holy Spirit. … If you are not giving because you love Jesus, don’t bother giving,” Hinn argued. “I think giving has become such a gimmick; it’s making me sick to my stomach.”

9

The National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, has urged Nigerians to boycott South African goods and services to protest the killings of Nigerians and other nationals living in that country.

Oshiomhole gave the advice at a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.

He recalled that over the past year, Nigerians have been maltreated in one part of South Africa or the other.

“This is the time to show commitment to our citizens and show sympathy to our loved ones.

“This can be done by boycotting South African goods and services beginning with Nigerians refusing to use MTN mobile network.

“Happily, we have indigenous network such as Glo, Airtel and I believe 9Mobile is still standing by.

“If Nigerians boycott the goods and services at least for 30 days; first, to stop using MTN network services, it will send a clear message

“We have to review all of those things that give South African companies monopoly in which it makes money with very little value addition.

“We think that these steps will be appropriate message to South African government to offer satisfactory explanation.
