0
The Akwa Ibom Government says it has sealed off the premises of Christ Embassy Church, Nung Akpa Ime branch, Uyo, for allegedly attacking the State COVID-19 Compliance Monitoring Team.
Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, Secretary to State Government and Chairman of COVID-19 Management Committee, stated this in a statement in Uyo on Sunday.
Ekuwem said the Church was sealed off for obstructing, attacking, and brutalizing members of the monitoring team.
He added that the sealing off of the Church was due to acts of lawlessness and to avoid the risk of community transmission of Coronavirus.
The secretary to the state government said that the Pastors and members involved in the attack would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“In response to this act of lawlessness by the Church and in order to avoid the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom State, the Christ Embassy Church building and premises are hereby sealed off with immediate effect until further notice.
“The suspected Pastors and relevant members of the church will be made to face the wrath of the law,” Ekuwem said.
It was gathered that when the monitoring team arrived at the Church on Sunday, at about 11 a.m., some men prevented the team from gaining access to the Church premises.
It was also learnt that appeals by the leader of the monitoring team, Mr. Enobong Uwah, and other members including the State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Ndueso Ekwere, were rebuffed.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that after the ease of lockdown, the Akwa Ibom Government reopened worship centres on June 7, based on the guidelines submitted by CAN.

Governor Akeredolu denies asking the police to stop his Deputy from leaving the state house over alleged plan of dumping APC for PDP

0

Ondo state governor Rotimi Akeredolu has distanced himself from the drama that ensued at the state house last night, between the state’s Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi and Police Commissioner Bolaji Salami.

Governor Akeredolu’s spokesman Segun Ajiboye described claim of having a hand in the incident as “absolute falsehood”.

Ajiboye stated that the normal practice in government is for inventory of offices and residential quarters to be taken before an official leaves such premises. He accused aides of the deputy governor of wanting to leave the state house with items wrapped in unclear ownership as late as 11pm. He added that the commissioner of police came over to restore law and order at the state house.

The statement read;

“It should, however, be placed on records that it is a time-tested code in government’s business for officials to take inventory of offices and quarters before and after an official is moving in or out of offices or quarter.

“Accordingly, the Commissioner of Police intervention which was at the instance of an almost manipulated security apparatus at the Government House was most desirable to restore law and order.

“It becomes particularly worrisome and suspicious when aides of the Deputy Governor insisted on leaving the premises with items wrapped in unclear ownership as late as 11pm.

“Governor Akeredolu reiterates his commitment to the rights of all, including the Deputy Governor governor. But he has a duty to be firm and dispassionate in exercising the roles assigned to him.”

Revealed! Buhari Considers Sacking And Prosecuting EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu

0
Barring last minute reprieve, Ibrahim Magu, acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), may not only be on his way out of office, but also may be looking towards days of accounting for alleged infractions preferred against him by Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Saturday INDEPENDENT can exclusively report.
Impeccable presidency sources said on Friday that President Muhammadu Buhari had given Malami approval to investigate and prosecute Magu following his memorandum, where he itemised 22 weighty allegations against the EFCC chairman, who has occupied the office for nearly five years in acting capacity.
The sources said the EFCC chairman will temporarily hand over the anti-graft agency to the next most senior person, Mohammed Umar Abba, Director of Operations of the agency.
Malami had also included a short list of three candidates for consideration to replace Magu. Our sources said FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, may ultimately replace him, being the most favoured among the three names Malami submitted to the president.
One of the sources said the president wanted the panel to investigate the authenticity of the property and proxy allegations against Magu, noting that “because of the weight of the allegations, and the kind of person managing the EFCC, the president wouldn’t want to take any decision in a hurry. So he made sure a crack team is assembled to look into the matter holistically.”
According to him, Ayo Salami, former President of Court of Appeal, is heading the panel with the offices of National Security Adviser (NSA); Director General, Department of State Services (DSS); Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Police, and Attorney General of the Federation as members.
According to the source, the panel has two weeks to submit its report to the president, but had already done a week.
Malami, had in his memorandum to the president, made allegations bordering on financial malfeasances in failure to declare actual money recovered from looters. He also accused Magu of gross insubordination, refusing directives from the commission’s supervisory ministry; and as a result, the Federal Government has come under severe attack and embarrassment on account of odium stemming from poorly pursued investigations. The AGF’s memo made strong innuendos purporting that Magu has made himself a willing tool in the hands of politicians thereby reducing the sterling reputation EFCC once enjoyed.
Sources at the presidency insisted on Friday that Buhari has indeed signed off on the memo only awaiting implementation.
“By the recommendation, Magu should be eased out of office, and prosecuted on the strength of the allegations made against him,”
explained a presidency source to the newspaper, who said the president was livid after reading the memo.
explained a presidency source to the newspaper, who said the president was livid after reading the memo.
Adding further, the sources said that had the matter rested squarely on just Malami’s memo, maybe a form of reprieve could have been worked out for the commission’s chairman.
“Malami was extensively debriefed on the matter. Security agencies were also involved in the matter and they all came back with damning verdicts,”
the source added.
So far, the presidency has refused to say much on the matter.
In a text message response by Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the President, Mallam Garba Shehu, asking for confirmation on whether Magu will be eased out, the presidential spokesman simply said, “I don’t know the answer to your question.”
Several attempts at reaching Dele Oyewale, Head, Media and Publicity, EFCC, yielded no result as his phones continued ringing without the calls being picked up. However, another source within the commission told the newspaper that there cannot be any official response from EFCC unless matters are directed at them.
But as also learnt, Magu is said not to be leaving anything to chance. It was learnt that some of his backers with link at the Presidential Villa have been putting in words for the embattled anti-graft’s czar, telling Mr. President that Magu is being hounded by corrupt politicians.
One of the result of the alleged brokering resulted in Magu being seen at the Aso Rock mosque where he observed the Jumat with President Buhari.
As learnt, the EFCC boss was there to have an audience with the president.
It was, however, unclear if the mission succeeded as at the time of filing this report.
It would be recalled that in 2016, the Senate declined to confirm Magu’s appointment as EFCC chairman, citing a Department of State Services (DSS) report, which revealed unsavory activities. Despite the Senate’s rejection of Magu, President Buhari re-nominated him, but the Senate again rejected him.

You don’t need a church wedding to be married, it isn’t in the scriptures – Reno Omokri says

0

Author and activist, Reno Omokri has shared his thoughts as regards the concept of church wedding saying it isn’t biblical.

In series of posts shared on his Facebook page, Reno said the concept of church weddings isn’t backed up by the scriptures.

According to Reno, a former media aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Jesus in the bible attended a wedding held at home and not a church. Reno said all that is needed for a wedding ceremony to take place, is a man, his wife and their family members, not a church, pastor or priest.

He added that God simplified marriage, but Africans in copying the whites have complicated it.

He wrote : ”Someone said church wedding is necessary because pastors are God’s representatives on Earth. To that man, my question is this: What are your parents? Devil’s representative? No blessing on Earth is greater than parent’s blessing.”

”After God, parents. Read Christ’s parables regarding marriage-Luke 14:8-10. It does not involve a priest or pastor. My dear people, these European ideas about church wedding are doctrines of men, there is nothing divine or holy about it. Holy matrimony only involves the couple and their parents. That is why the only commandment amongst the Ten Commandments with a blessing attached to it is “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you”-Exodus 20:12”

VIDEO| Ondo Deputy Governor stopped from leaving the state house by police commissioner over alleged plan of dumping the APC for PDP

0
A dramatic scene was recorded at the Ondo State Government house in Akure, as the state’s Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi was allegedly stopped from leaving the premises by the state commissioner of police, Salami Amidu Bolaji.
Actions of the commissioner of police who was spotted having an argument with Ajayi at the government house gate, has been linked to the Deputy Governor’s alleged defection plan which he (Police Commissioner) repeatedly mentioned in a viral video.
Sahara Reporters had alleged that Ajayi has decided to join the PDP to contest against Governor Akeredolu in the state governorship election scheduled to hold on October 10, 2020. It was reported that the deputy governor’s defection plan has created disaffection among top members of the APC and loyalists of Akeredolu, who have been pleading with Ajayi not to leave the party.
Insiders said the Deputy Governor’s decision to contest in the governorship election stemmed from a cold war between him and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, which became visible shortly after the 2019 general elections.

Man commits suicide after losing boss’ N150k to gambling in Bayelsa

0

An employee reportedly committed suicide in Bayelsa last week, after losing his boss’ N150k to gambling in Bayelsa.

The Nation reported that the deceased staked the money on a virtual game which lasts less than two minutes and is controlled by computers. The man who was identified simply as Suga used the money realized on the day of the incident to play the virtual game.

An eyewitness said;

“Suga, not knowing how to explain the situation to his boss, made him to take his own life.”

This increases the number of people who have died from betting and gambling since last year in the state to three.

Bayelsa police spokesperson Asinim Butswat said though the police is aware of the incident, it has not been reported officially.

Butswat said;

“The Divisional Police Officer of Bassambri Nembe said the incident was not reported officially to the police. He, however, said they heard about the incident.”

Some APC governors are supporting me – Governor Obaseki

0

Governor Godwin Obaseki who was screened at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Saturday June 20, has disclosed that he still enjoys the support of some All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors.

He said the same certificates which he was disqualified for by the APC, were the ones he presented to the PDP screening committee without any issue.

Obaseki said;

“I still thank God that I enjoy national support; not just support from my colleagues from the APC. I think the support is national.

“There are elder statesmen who are apolitical, there are traditional rulers. I have people from different spectra of the society who come around in solidarity with me and they support me because I think Nigerians are generally fair minded people.

“They are people who do not accept injustice. From what I have seen over the past several weeks and months, the support is across board. It is not just from APC governors alone.”

While one of the three PDP aspirants for the primary election, Kenneth Imansuangbon has kicked against Obaseki’s participation in the exercise and insisted that he would not trade away his aspiration, the two other aspirants, Gideon Ikhine and Omorege Ogbeide-Ihama have not raised any objection to the inclusion of the governor in the exercise.

Commenting on the development, Obaseki said he has initiated discussions with them as he never joined the PDP to divide the party.

He added;

“I am not a dividing candidate. I am speaking with all the aspirants. My hope and purpose for the PDP is to have a united and very strong party.

“Party primary should not be divisive because we as a party are focused on the same objective, and because we are separate individuals, our approach may be different.

“So, party primary, in my view, should not be acrimonious and destructive. And there are common grounds, common interest and I am very hopeful that I will get it (ticket) even as there are quite a number of delegates for the exercise.”

Speaking on his defection from the APC to PDP, Obaseki averred that there has never been any ideological difference between the two parties.

He said;

My experience is that having served four years as a governor, I don’t see that ideological divide. It doesn’t exist. I think the focus for me is development.

“Whether you are a conservative or a progressive, it is expected that the outcome should be development.

“And unfortunately, I got a bit confused in the APC. At some point, I was being accused of not sharing the money.

“When we were campaigning against PDP, we said that the problem there was that they were sharing the money. So for me, it cannot be about ideology.

“At this point in time, it is important that I will provide strong and correct leadership, provide a direction for the country and for our people, provide the basic amenities that they need – education, health care, good infrastructure.

“These are the things that our people are yearning for. These are the things that we are doing in Edo State today.

“So as a progressive or as a conservative, my ideology is about the people: getting the people to enjoy the benefits of democracy.”
