Buhari’s government rejects report of ‘genocide against Christians in Nigeria’

0

The Buhari-led government has rejected report of an alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

The United Kingdom All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Religious Freedom or Belief (a group made up of British parliamentarians) in its report, said that Christians are being targeted because of their faith in Nigeria.

However President Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu in a statement released on behalf of the Presidency said Boko Haram are targeting Christians in their attacks because they know it drives forward religious and land tensions already existent in the country.

He also insisted that the Buhari-led administration is increasing efforts “to fully defeat and finally finish Boko Haram” and has stopped seeking to negotiate for those held captive by the insurgents.

The statement reads in full;

The President and Government of Nigeria wish to thank members of the United Kingdom All-Party Parliamentary Group on International Religious Freedom or Belief for their report, launched a few days ago.
Although it is difficult reading, the statement also acknowledges the importance of accurate, unbiased, depoliticised and truthful information when it comes to understanding the realities and addressing the challenges for those of faith in Nigeria. In this regard when uncritical attention is afforded to critics with dubious intentions, it only becomes harder for both the government and people of Nigeria to engage in constructive dialogue to resolve our differences, and uphold what is enshrined in our Constitution and laws: that everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

It is clear for all to see that there have, for generations in Nigeria, been tensions between our major religions, Christianity and Islam – and between herders and farmers – both for access to ever-decreasing arable and farmland due to a rapidly rising population, temperatures and desertification through global warming.

Exacerbating those tensions, our nation has also been in recent times and focused within the northern states – subject to vicious and criminal attacks by the terror group Boko Haram.

In concert with our American and British allies, Nigeria’s military have pushed back the terrorists and largely reduced their capacity over the last five years compared to the previous decade.

Boko Haram have targeted Christians and Churches specifically because they know it drives forward religious and land tensions already existent in the country. Similarly, they attack mosques and Muslims in order to issue the threat: radicalise, or become targets yourselves.

In the months and years ahead, our President who is Muslim and our Vice President who is an evangelical Christian pastor are irrevocably committed to addressing these multiple and long-term challenges for today’s and future generations. These include:

– Continuing and increasing Nigeria’s efforts alongside our allies to fully defeat and finally finish Boko Haram, in order to bring security to the north of the country.

– Continuing to seek, negotiate for, and secure the return of all those held hostage and in captivity by the terrorists, regardless of the religious faith or belief.

– Uniting our nation through dialogue organised around respect for difference in religion. Such a programme is already underway under the leadership of the Vice President, Pastor Yemi Osinbajo.

– Addressing, through Joint Federal and State Governments programmes, access to arable farmland – with land mandated both for farmers and herders. The federal government will issue detailed measures regarding this plan and its rollout in the coming weeks

– Countering fake news – particularly on social and digital media – by working with the non-partisan stakeholder community, the National Broadcasting Commission and social media platforms themselves, to address the proliferation of false and inflammatory commentary.

The President and Government have and will at all times work with those – both within and without Nigeria – with a concern for the rights to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

In this regard, we look forward to welcoming members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group to our country to see for themselves the work that is going on to promote these fundamental rights of our citizens.

BREAKING! Governor Obaseki joins PDP [VIDEO]

0
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has finally joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a few days after defecting from the All progressives Congress, APC.
The PDP made the disclosure via its twitter handle on Friday, adding that Mr Obseki joined the party through its State Secretariat in Benin, the state capital.
The governor also posted on his verified Facebook page, saying he would compete for governorship on the opposition party platform.
”I have officially joined the Official Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Nigeria to advance my ambition to seek re-election as Governor of Edo State.
“I, as always, remain committed to engendering good governance and sustainable development of our dear state,” he said.

Recall that the Prof. Jonathan Ayuba-led screening committee had disqualified the governor from contesting in the July 22 party primary in the state.
While presenting its report to the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee in Abuja on Friday, the chairman of the panel, explained that the committee could not vouch for the authenticity of the Higher School Certificate Mr Obaseki claimed to have obtained but refused to produce.
According to the committee, the document Mr Obaseki produced only attested to his attendance.
Reacting on Friday, Mr Obaseki said he would not be appealing the outcome of the panel, describing his disqualification as ‘a mockery of the democratic process’.
Much later, the governor announced his defection from the party, promising to announce his next move before the July 22 primaries.
Emerging out of a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, on Monday, the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, said the party was not jittery over plans by the Edo governor to decamp to PDP.
In a veiled reference to Mr Obaseki’s disqualification and defection plans, Mr Oshiomhiole added that no evidence suggests that a sitting governor must win an election.

0

Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Minister of Health, has called on the members of the National Association of Resident Doctors in Ngeria, to call off their strike action and return to work.

According to him, the striking doctors should believe the promises made so far by the Buhari-led government as this is the most sincere and serious government Nigeria has even had.

Speaking when he appeared on Channels TV Friday morning, June 19, Ehanire said

“We have made it clear to them (doctors) that this government is the most sincere and serious government this country has ever had. His (Buhari) word is his bond.

This government has a record of being sympathetic to people, of meeting its obligations and keeping to its promises.”

He recalled that the present government paid the Nigerian Airways pension arrears as well as kept to other promises it made to Nigerians. He called on the striking doctors to reconsider their action for the interest of the country, assuring them that the government will keep to its end of the bargain.

“This government does things differently. This is a government that says its word and keeps to its words. We would not do anything to hurt you. We work in your (doctors) interest.

We are going through a very difficult time with other countries and this is quite clearly not the time to add more to our problems by deciding to go on strike. I am worried that we are probably the first and only country where doctors have decided to go on strike.” he said

Members of the National Association of Resident Doctors began a nationwide strike on Monday, June 15 over the failure of the government to pay them their COVID-19 allowances among other issues.

‘She ask me for drugs and I refused’ – Man arrested for the death of activist, Toyin Salau, confesses and reveals how he killed her

0
The Florida man accused of killing Black Lives Matter activist Oluwatoyin Salau has reportedly admitted to killing her and another woman.
He made this admission to his mother during a phone call. He also revealed how he killed Toyin.
49-year-old Aaron Glee Jr. was arrested after the bodies of Toyin and another woman, identified as 75-year-old Victoria Sims, were found in a home he rented in Tallahassee.
Aaron tried to flee after the murders, but police were able to capture him on a bus in Orlando by Sunday, June 14th.
Aaron’s mother, Sandra Cutliff, revealed to the Daily Mail her son called her Sunday and confessed to the killings. She told the publication that her son said he met Toyin on a bus and invited her to his house so she could shower. He told his mother Toyin asked him for drugs after her shower and when he refused, she allegedly bit him and called him a “n*gger” and this sent him into a rage.
Sandra Cutliff said: “He told me that after she got out of the shower she wanted ‘molly’. He told her he wasn’t going to buy it. He said she called him a f—ass n—-r and bit him. That’s what triggered him off.”
It’s reported Aaron strangled Toyin to death.
He also admitted to his mother that he killed Victoria Sims last week after she called him a “slob.” He became enraged and killed her.
Aaron and Victoria have known each other for years. 75-year-old Victoria is a long-time volunteer for AARP Florida and member of Tallahassee Heights United Methodist Church. She was friends with Aaron and helped him look after himself and get government services, Cutliff told Daily Mail. She said Aaron referred to Sims as “Miss Vicky” and his “white grandmother” and would sometimes cook for her.
Cutliff said her son confessed to her that sometime after the first alleged murder, Sims came to his house to check on him. That was when she called him a slob and he killed her.
Salau was last seen on June 6, and Sims on June 11.
Florida man arrested for the death of Black Lives Matter activist, Toyin Salau, confesses and reveals how he killed her
Days before Salau was found dead, she tweeted about being sexually assaulted by a man who posed as a church member.
Police have not said whether or not Aaron is the same man Salau accused of molesting her before she disappeared. Cutliff said her son did not sexually assault Salau and does not have a vehicle. It has also emerged that Aaron was arrested two weeks ago on May 30 for aggravated battery causing bodily harm and released on a $2,500 bond two days later.
His mother told Daily Mail that the arrest occurred after Aaron attacked a woman at a bus stop when she called him the n-word.
Cutliff, 67, said her son suffered from mental health problems and had been on a downward spiral into a psychotic break over the past few weeks.
Prison records show Aaron has an extensive criminal history dating back to 1989, including convictions for robbery, grand theft auto, credit card fraud, throwing a “deadly missile” at a building and forging bills.

According to reports, Olujoda has witnessed a series of robbery attacks in recent times and this has caused residents to be suspicious of every move.

Eyewitnesses say the youths in the area saw the deceased roaming the street and this made them become suspicious of him.
