Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has said that the entire Hate Speech Bill should be scrapped.

Fani-Kayode, who is a now a staunch critic of the presidency and the All Progressives Congress took to his Twitter page to call for total revocation of the bill.

Yesterday, sponsor of the bill, Sabi Abdullahi, has said that the controversial bill which proposed “death by hanging” for offenders, would be reworked to suit the wishes of Nigerians before passage.

The Bill had already passed through first reading on the floor of the Senate.

According to to Bill,“A person who uses, publishes, presents, produces, plays, provides, distributes and/or directs the performance of any material, written and/or visual, which is threatening, abusive or insulting or involves the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour” committed an offence.

Fani-Kayode has also told the sponsor of the bill to apologise to Nigerians for trying to trample on their freedom of expression.

“Removing the death penalty for so-called “hate speech” is not enough. You must scrap the entire Bill, send it back to Singapore where it came from, get on ur knees & ask God & the people for forgiveness for having the temerity to try to deprive them of their right to speak freely,” he tweeted.
